I LOVE TKD - Dunedin
I Love TKD - Dunedin
These event where hugely popular in 2024 and are back for 2025.
“I Love TKD” is an initiative begun by members of the taekwondo community in New Zealand to promote the participation of taekwondo students in tournaments.
Prior to Covid, it would have expected 10% of all current students to attend at least one tournament each year. Evidence has shown that post-Covid this has dropped to 3-5%, which is not good for the devlopment of our sporting community.
As a consequence, a group of members decided to run a series of really low level tournaments aimed only at the 95% who do not attended tournaments.
The series has the support of Taekwondo New Zealand and the sponsorship of KWON NZ.

ABOUT US
“I-love-TKD” - A group of taekwondo enthusiasts including, but not exclusive to Hayley Storey and Garry Carpenter.
The aim is to promote the development of taekwondo in New Zealand by hosting grass roots "non-competitive” tournaments throughout the country.
“I-love-TKD” is working alongside Clubs throughout New Zealand to assist in hosting a Taekwondo event intheir community.
“I-love-TKD extends an invitation to our Para Community athletes to take part in our competitions.
Let’s just do it.
COMPETITION NATURE:
This tournament is for new-comers and beginners who have done 3 or less tournaments in sparring only –Poomsae has no restrictions. Those who are tournament “specialists” are asked to act as Referees, Judges and Coaches. For the specialists, it is time for you to give back to your sport-Club.
Poomsae and Kyorugi/Sparring will be as a single match. Poomsae will be competed for by having bothplayers taking the mat at the same time and performing their Poomsae at the same time. Judges will select which Poomsae they liked the most, deciding the winner in this manner.
Kyorugi/Sparring will be played in the normal manner, best-of-three-rounds Everyone one gets a medal. Due to the nature of the competition, every match (Poomsae and Sparring) is a FINAL, so winning player gets GOLD, 2nd player gets SILVER.

Hyeon Mu Open
Dear Master, Instructors, Coaches and Members,
We are pleased to announce the Hyeon Mu Open is back for 2024.
We have some changes (again!).
This year's changes are around the tournament format, especially around the Poomsae.
All of this is explained in the attached info pack, so please make sure you read it!
The plan is to have more mat time for your Poomsae players and not spread the officials too thin across both Poomsae and Kyorugi.
If the last couple of years is anything to go by, we expect a huge turnout again with some awesome competition.
As with every tournament, help from clubs to assist with judging and refereeing is hugely appreciated for an efficient day.
We will be following the same processes we introduced last year and will be applying what we learned to this year.
As per last year:
All individual entries will be completed electronically (link in entry pack) - please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any issues with how to complete these.
To reduce our carbon footprint - All tournament draws will be made available electronically.
To reduce our carbon footprint - Poomsae will be scored electronically and scores will be displayed on all rings (as long as we don't have technical issues).
Poomsae Judges please reach out to me!
We will have the best performing club award again which will be calculated as follows:
Each medal will be awarded a certain number of points, the total will be added and then divided by the number of entries from your club.
This is to have a weighted average which allows smaller clubs to be able to compete against the bigger clubs!
Best performing club means best performing overall.
To be eligible you must have entries across both Poomsae and Kyorugi, with a minimum of 12 entries.
Details for the best performing Kyorugi and Poomsae clubs to come on Facebook
Please feel free to forward this onto anyone that would be interested in competing.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
We look forward to seeing you in August.
Thank you
Anthony Chan
