TNZ and NZOC Strengthen Relationship to Support Athletes

Taekwondo New Zealand and New Zealand Olympic Committee Strengthen Relationship to Support Athletes

Taekwondo New Zealand (TNZ) met recently with the New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) in a constructive and positive meeting focused on building a transparent and collaborative working relationship that will ultimately benefit athletes across the sport of Taekwondo in New Zealand.

The meeting was attended by TNZ President Grandmaster Jin Keun Oh and TNZ Secretary General Darryl June, alongside NZOC Chairperson Glen Sowry, NZOC Chief Executive Officer Nicki Nicol, and NZOC Chief Operations Officer Tara Pryor.

Discussions centred on the regulatory and governance requirements TNZ needs to implement as part of its ongoing development, the organisation’s progress in addressing previous structural and operational challenges, and the status of TNZ’s membership application to the NZOC, which subject to the regulatory and governance requirements being completed, will be endorsed at the NZOC AGM in May 2026.

“We are extremely appreciative for the opportunity to meet with Glen, Nicki and Tara as part of the process to rebuild our relationship,” said TNZ Secretary General Darryl June. “This dialogue marks an important step forward in our shared commitment to ensuring Taekwondo athletes in New Zealand have access to the best possible governance, support and pathways.”

Both organisations expressed their commitment to continued engagement and collaboration, recognising that a strong partnership between TNZ and the NZOC will help create a sustainable and athlete-focused future for the sport.
